    dude, all those books that someone sells with the feature THERE ARE LOTS OF EXERCISES sound so boring to me... my english won't improve through such activities. exposing myself to a lot of content and real English is the point. it's way better than doing some exercises and tests, then going to bed and telling yourself you're improving just because you answered a few questions. SO BORING...

    • @The-English-Professor
      @The-English-Professor 5 дней назад

      Yes lots of people are like you and they get stuck at one level in English. Do you know how many “boring” exercises a top sportsperson does every day? That’s what makes them different to the others. I can see by all the mistakes in your message that you don’t use books to learn. What a pity !

      @@The-English-Professor Oh, I see... for you these comments are like an ESSAY TEST? AHHHHH. That's great! What a joke, hahaha dude, english is my third language, and despite studying it for only ONE year, I've reached a decent intermediate level. I believe that people who struggle so hard to learn english do so because they focus on people LIKE YOU who prioritize GRAMMAR and PERFECTION over COMMUNICATION in the begin. you should read a little bit about the NATURAL APPROACH by Stephen Krashen. that's what helps people really get used to the language, not by ANSWERING QUESTIONS - BS, but just by TRUSTING THEIR BRAINS. that's the thing.

    Dear David, I have a query about this certification: in what does it differ from the Cambridge Proficiency exam in terms of prestige and expendability on the job market or for any university career?

    • @The-English-Professor
      @The-English-Professor 7 дней назад

      Well a specified pass level at B2, C1 or C2 should be equal no matter which organisation administers the exam and certification. Prestige wise you need to assess for yourself. Check what any university you are interested in deems acceptable. Good luck, David

      Thanks for your question because a lot of students have the same question and feeling before the exam. When you answer questions both written and spoken rean and listen carefully to the tense used in the question. Usually you should answer in the same tense as the question. E.g. Tell me about a holiday when you had a funny experience. - This is clearly a past tense question and should be answered using the past. E.g. A holiday when I had a funny experience was when I went to Dubai two years ago .........etc. Good luck, David

    Here's the problem: you can read all the books you want and learn all the words, but if you can't pronounce them, it's not good enough. No pronunciation books are mentioned. Why? BECAUSE IT'S HARD! IT'S NOT FUN! You've gotta add 'English Pronunciation in Use' by Jonathan Marks. It's an invaluable teaching aid and pivotal to learning IPA and pronunciation.

    • @The-English-Professor
      @The-English-Professor Месяц назад

      Hi Russel ( or is it Scott? ), you are right in saying this however, these days we have the internet, which helps people immensely with pronunciation accuracy, don't you agree? You can google a word and listen to how it should be pronounced both in a British and an American accent. Apart from that most dictionaries and some text books use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) for those people who know it. Thanks you comment - you sound like a wise person, David

    • @russellscott1064
      @russellscott1064 Месяц назад

      Yes, there are indeed numerous resources out there, to be sure. I appreciate "Pronunciation in Use" because it not only teaches IPA, but also allows you to work one-on-one with the student to practice all the sounds. I believe it's crucial to engage in this personal, one-on-one pronunciation practice rather than relying solely on online resources. This approach ensures that students not only hear but also understand the mechanics of how sounds are made. A significant issue with many pronunciation exercises is that students may hear the sounds but don't understand the mechanics of how the sounds are made. I specialize in teaching Vietnamese students, who particularly need this resource since many of the sounds in English are not used in Vietnamese. I agree that "Ready for First" and "Ready for Advanced" are excellent books. "Grammar in Use" is great; however, I teach the book in a different order because I feel starting with the present perfect and present continuous is somewhat advanced for my methodology. "Vocabulary in Use" is also excellent. The books you've mentioned are indeed superb.
